Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina

Just spent a week at Ocean Isle Beach with my sister, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, brother, & brother-in-law. We have shared this week for the 3rd year & totally enjoy it. Sadly, Mom wasn't feeling well enough to join us. Sister, Joyce, stayed with her to monitor. Next year, Mom! Ummm.... you too, Joyce. Even after 2 days of driving 10 hrs I am ready to go back. I have so many images to share, but thought we'd start simple with a sunset & some waves.

Grasses & Sunset

As we stocked pheasants for the second time, daylight was fading fast. I didn't make much of an attempt to photograph the birds, but I could not help noticing the lacy grasses silhouetted against the colors of sunset.

Skywatch Friday - Mercersburg Academy

I am fascinated by church steeples, courthouse bell towers, any of those lovely bits of architecture that reach into the sky. This one is a beauty! I have long admired it on trips thru the small town of Mercersburg PA, procrastinating about stopping to capture some images. On the trip home after the Good Friday shopping trip I noticed my timing looked just about perfect for a sunset background. Amazingly enough I made it just in time to get set up & shoot. Above you see a few of the results. My biggest problem was the steeple was crooked on a lot of the images.....I did ask Andy why such a beautiful structure would have been built so crooked! (he didn't believe me). Thankfully post processing contains the magic needed to make everything OK. I plan to stop again for more shots, maybe with a blue sky or some lovely fall colors, but will try hard to remember to keep that Canon straight.

A Welcome Break from Chores!

Thanks to my Skywatch friends who visited my blog & left comments last week. I looked back into files to get this weeks shot. After the cold, windy weather this week I considered a beach shot to help remember the warmth, but we will look at that another time (maybe during a snow storm). I remember an evening in August when I pulled myself away from my computer to attend to household chores. The first chore was loading the dishwasher. Approaching the sink I could not help notice the neighbor's trees & how the ruffled silhouettes were backed by the beautiful colors of the sunset. I grabbed the camera & ran. Now, I really do not like using a tripod, but I know how important it is in low light situations. Since I did not have time to mess setting up the thing I did next best. My car roof made a wonderful steady (& expensive) tripod. Not too many of this series turned out well, but I do like this one. Enjoy. To the sky from everywhere or to share your's click here.

A Beautiful Ending to a Beautiful Day

Last Saturday, as I was waiting for the tractor pull to begin, nature displayed a fantastic show. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous. Blues, pinks, & purples deepening & darkening until it finally was dark. WOW. I loved it, even made it worth sitting in the cold. The images are not the best. Darn power lines! Sunset Tonight

I made it outside again this evening & this time I witnessed & photographed a fantastic sunset! I did some messing around with settings on the camera, mostly between the sunset setting & landscape setting. The sunset setting makes a brilliant colored shot that is in it's own way is lovely. The colors are very intense & sometimes kinda eerie looking (although I'm sure they have a place in the world of imaging). The landscape shots are softer & lighter, but still show wonderful colors. These shots are more attractive to me. I am posting a sample of each & one of the world that I see outside my window daily. Enjoy.

Sunset

After today's beautiful skies I decided to get my chair, tripod, & camera, sit in the neighboring field & enjoy the sunset. To my initial disappointment the sun was mostly lost behind a big dark cloud. I stayed out anyhow, took some shots, & ended up with some pleasant surprises. The giant puffy clouds make me smile, I often tell Trinity I would like to sit on one, they look so soft & comfy. Her usual answer is "Granny, you will fall through". Typical 7 year old tell it like it is! But, I'd take the chance those clouds look so comfortable!

I sat in the neighboring field watching & capturing the beautiful sunset last evening. Wonderful show, free for the watching. Can't say that about to many things these days!
